Marvin Windows Announces New Products

At the 2020 International Builders’ Show (IBS), in Las Vegas, Marvin unveiled its Marvin Skycove, a fully constructed, projected-glass box structure that can seat one or more people to extend functional living space. The window, which won Best Indoor Product at IBS, is built on a steel structure, designed to hold 60 pounds per square foot (slightly more than many decks, which are rated at 50 pounds per square foot).

Its new Skycove product was a great representation of a theme seen throughout the show for narrow sightlines. The company said it noticed homeowners spending time in these little spaces created in homes, so this was a product the company hopes will meet that desire through windows. It is a fully constructed glass pop-out structure that expands interior space.

“The space that it creates can be used to solve many different problems that we don’t solve today amongst window and door companies, and that is to create space perhaps in a smaller kitchen or where a couch would not normally fit,” said Levi Geadelmann, senior marketing product manager for Marvin, at IBS. “You now have the ability, through a window and door company, to buy a product that actually gives you more thoughtful space within the home.”

Because the window protrudes out, the glass on the side and top offers more light and visibility than traditional rough openings. “It lets quite a bit more light in…. You get one-and-a-half times the amount of glass [than] you do in a normal rough opening,” Geadelmann said.

The window comes in two sizes: 6.5-feet wide by 70 inches high and 8.5-feet wide by a little more than 7 feet high.

Skycove windows will be available in mid-2020, shipping to Marvin dealers
