Don and Valerie Sanders of Kansas City, Mo., happily enjoyed their vacation home on Sanibel Island until Valerie discovered the pleasures of Palm Beach more than 15 years ago.
“She visited and fell in love,” explains her husband.
And it has been a long-running romance. In 1998, the couple bought their 1989-era home at 1236 N. Ocean Way, just one residence away from the ocean, and they agree that it has been a perfect getaway.
But today, the two want to spend more time with their family in Missouri. So their four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath house — with a two-car garage and 4,330 square feet of living space, inside and out — has been offered for sale. Broker Steve Hall of Hall Real Estate has it priced at $3.25 million.
The home’s bright-and-sunny ambience and North End location had immediately appealed to them, Don Sanders says.
“It has great light with high ceilings and lots of windows,” he says. “We also love the location. It’s handy to the beach, we have direct access, and we like the street and our neighbors. We also love living across the street from the town’s nursery.”
The contemporary-style house has a U-shaped configuration, with wings bordering the pool and back patio. The living and dining rooms feature 25-foot ceiling heights.  New windows and doors to the east afford views of the front gardens and motor court.
To the west, both spaces open to a colonnaded hallway connecting the north and south wings. In the hallway, a row of French doors with windows above them open to the covered loggia that overlooks the pool.
“We can access the pool from any room in the house, because there are so many doors that open to it,” Don says. “For that reason, it’s a great house for entertaining.”

With the master bedroom in the south wing and the kitchen, entertainment room and guest bedrooms in the north wing, the layout works well for visiting house guests, too, affording privacy for all, he adds.
The master bedroom features French doors, a parquet floor and a bay window. Appointed in marble, the master bathroom has two showers and a whirlpool tub. A den in the south wing can double as a bedroom.
